Recruiter tips for Financial Analyst CVs

  • Finance CVs at top banks are ruthlessly screened. Formatting must be perfect: no typos, consistent fonts, aligned margins.
  • Mention your university grade (if a 2:1 or above) and relevant modules. Many banks have grade cut-offs.
  • If you've passed CFA Level 1 or have Bloomberg certification, put it directly below your name.
  • Demonstrate commercial awareness: mention a deal, market trend, or financial story you've followed.

Common CV mistakes for Financial Analysts

  • ✗Overlong CVs, one tight page for analysts, maximum two for associates
  • ✗Vague descriptions ('Assisted with financial modelling', what type of model? What deal? What was your specific contribution?)
  • ✗No mention of tools, Excel, Bloomberg, FactSet, Capital IQ all matter to interviewers
