Recruiter tips for Graphic Designer CVs

  • Portfolio link must be above the fold on your CV, a dead or missing link is an instant rejection.
  • Show range AND focus: demonstrate versatility but make clear where your specialism lies (brand, editorial, digital, motion).
  • Name your tools explicitly: Adobe CC (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, After Effects), Figma, Cinema 4D. Tools are screened.
  • For senior roles, include brand strategy and client management experience. Design directors want to see commercial thinking.

Common CV mistakes for Graphic Designers

  • ✗Portfolio not curated to the role you're applying for, send your best 5 pieces, not 30 average ones
  • ✗No mention of the brief or problem behind the design work
  • ✗Omitting print vs digital experience when both are relevant
